Spoiling Survivor

It was interesting to read the first chapter in Convergence Culture and think about how spoilers can impact television media. Different spoiling communities formed from watching Survivor.

Viewers in the East Coast saw a TV series three hours earlier that the people on the West Coast. Since the people on the East Coast would see the TV show first, they would spoil it for all the other viewers. Survivor spoilers made blog posts and posters on the Internet about the TV.

News media caught Las Vegas gambling operation that was dis continued, because of the betting that took place over Survivor.

Spoilers even figured out the URL for the directory tree on the official CBS website. Spoilers watched Survivor episodes closer than everyone else and definitely knew how to spoil the fun!

  1. I dont think its fair for ppl to do that, it ruins it for everyone. But then again i think if someone didnt want it to be spoiled then they wouldnt go and look online for it. Maybe its just tempting not to watch cuz you know its right there able to look at.
