Week 1: Reaction to interview's conducted by Rebecca Blood

Week One: January 5th, 2009

By: Meagan Moore

After reading through the interviews conducted by Rebecca Blood, I made a list of each of the bloggers and listed them from the first to the (being who I can relate to the most) and last (being who I can relate to the least).

I found that I favored Megan and Trine Maria’s blog style over the others, because they had similar craft interests as me. People read blogs which are most fascinating to them.

The bloggers who blogged on politics and sciences were not in my top choices for blogs to read. These blogs seem to be more technical and wordy, and are harder to read. Once a blog looses the reader’s interest, it’s not fun to read any more.

Listed below are the order of bloggers which I can relate to, with one being the blogger I can relate to the most:

1. Megan Reardon

2. Trine- Maria Kristenseen

3. Jason Kottke

4. Fred First

5. Bruce Schneier

6. Tiffany B. Brown

7. Scott Rosenberg

One of my friends, Megan Gensler, is a blogger. Megan blogs on LiveJournal and is a Google Blogger. Megan has been blogging on the Blogger, her ‘professional’ blog for a year. On Megan’s personal blog, the LiveJournal, she has been blogging for four years. Megan blogs to write about her experience as a writer and to share her knowledge with others.

Listed below is a table of my likes vs. dislikes of blogs:

Things I like

* Designed/ organized blogs

* Interesting typography

* Pictures and graphics on blogs

* Simple and sweet blog entries

* Sophisticated design for blog

* Good use of color on blog background

* Favorite fonts include: French Script MT, Script MT Bold, Garamond, Bodoni

* Quotes on blogs

* Media on blogs such as: videos, sounds and animation

I like these things because fun blogs to read use different types of media, such as: sound, animation and video to appeal to the reader. A blog which would first catch my eye has interesting typography and is easy to read. Also, the use of color on the background of blog should have good use of colors, which match and fit well with the font color used for the type. The layout of the blog should have a nice flow and be well balanced on the page.

Things I don’t like

* Wordy

* Lengthy and boring

* Technical words used

* Cluttered blogs

* Bad layout of text for blogs

* Too much information on blogs

* Neon/ ugly backgrounds

* Too much gossip in blogs

I don’t like these things because…

Blog entries should be sweet and simple. It’s best not to have blogs which are cluttered and use too many technical words. Too much information on a blog entry could draw the reader’s attention away.

Each blogger has a different writing style and design style, which makes each blogger unique. Blogs are best when the writer stays with one subject to get his/ or her point across. Blogging is a way of communication.
